Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder, Bob Evans. The next three minutes are packed with insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud! Today’s Topic: Growth Spurt Among the Top 10 Reflects Growing Cloud Demand.
Highlights
0:10 – The final quarter of 2021 saw a huge growth spurt among the Cloud Wars Top 10 vendors. Bob notes that it’s helpful to look at their growth rates as a group, in what it indicates about how dynamic this market is and how intense the demand is from companies looking to digitize their operations to move into the acceleration economy.
0:44 – Bob runs down the Q4 results among the Top 10 in descending order in terms of cloud growth rate. So first up is Google Cloud, which grew at 45% in that quarter. Next up is AWS at 40%, then Microsoft at 32% on a massive revenue base of $22 billion.
1:28 – Fourth on the list is ServiceNow, whose subscription revenue grew 29% in the quarter. Next come SAP with Q4 cloud revenue growth of 28%, and Oracle at 22%. Both SAP and Oracle also projected continued or even improved numbers in the quarters ahead.
2:14 – Across the Cloud Wars Top 10, there’s just incredible growth, independent of whatever nuttiness is happening within the stock market. Because the fundamental truths behind the numbers we’re seeing in the cloud market reflect the almost existential requirement for businesses to move into the cloud to keep pace with their digital futures. They have to reinvent themselves, to a certain extent, go far beyond just “polishing” things up.
