Reporting on location from Oracle CloudWorld, I connect with Tom Smith and Kieron Allen to share top takeaways from day three of the conference. We talk about Oracle’s major product announcements, including the integration of 50+ GenAI agents into the Fusion Applications suite, the groundbreaking multi-cloud partnership with AWS, and Oracle’s renewed focus on breaking down cloud silos while enhancing cloud security.

Highlights

Oracle CloudWorld Focuses on Multi-Cloud and AI (00:52)

Steve Miranda, who is in charge of Oracle’s Fusion Applications suite, mentioned in his keynote how Oracle’s customers are benefiting from the fact that it is the only app and infrastructure company that works with those two areas simultaneously. Oracle’s customers are getting the best-of-breed AI built into their applications.

There was a big product announcement of 50+ new GenAI agents being embedded into the Fusion Applications suite. Examples include a customer account research agent to help users with insights and planning for customer management and research as well as a proposal-writing agent for salespeople.

Significance of AWS Deal (03:11)

The AWS multi-cloud deal is important in terms of the expansion of OCI. It’s integrating OCI with AWS so that OCI customers can simultaneously work with their data across both AWS and OCI. It builds on Oracle’s existing relationships with Microsoft and Google and solidifies the emergence of multi-cloud in the enterprise setting.

Yesterday, a customer, the CTO at State Street Bank, was on stage with Larry Ellison and Matt Garman, from AWS said, “I know you guys are excited about this, but believe me, I’m even more excited than you are.” So, there’s huge motivation from customers to establish these partnerships.

CloudWorld Key Takeaways and Insights (06:40)

There’s a lot of excitement surrounding GenAI. But looking at the keynotes and how Oracle’s products are developing — and Larry Ellison’s vision, a big part of his keynote — the focus has shifted back to the cloud in many ways. Beyond Oracle’s integration with AWS, Microsoft, and Google, Larry Ellison was focusing on opening up the cloud. He talked about how the cloud had become siloed in many different ways, whereas the original aim was to make things as simple as possible for customers. That’s been a big theme — focusing on customers and ensuring the cloud is easy, open, and accessible.

Another big takeaway was the emphasis on security. While AI is incredibly present at CloudWorld this year, Oracle isn’t running ahead without focusing on areas like security. Larry Ellison talked about how AI should be used to bolster cloud security, which was an important message.

Breaking Down Cloud Silos and Cloud Detente(08:36)

While cloud silos aren’t commonly discussed, Oracle is taking significant steps to address them. Despite the fierce competition among hyperscaler companies, the push to eliminate these silos is driven by customer demand. Initially, industry leaders set the tone, but customer frustration with complex tech solutions ultimately shifts the power.

There was a Google Cloud meeting room within Oracle Cloud World, signaling a developing detente among cloud providers. The “cloud detente” has emerged as a prominent theme of the conference, with anticipation for more insights and developments to come.
