Oracle’s Steve Miranda on the Transformative Role of AI Agents in Enterprise Applications

Interplay Between Agents and Applications (1:01)

AI agents are becoming fundamental to business applications, often supplementing or replacing traditional business processes. “It’s a very dramatic and very important evolution of technology,” says Miranda. He compares AI agents’ integration into applications to the shift from mainframe to SaaS applications. There’s a move from self-service applications to AI-powered applications, with AI agents being effortlessly incorporated.

Miranda elaborates on how AI agents are transforming business processes, using the example of recruiting to illustrate task automation. AI agents are making business processes more efficient by automating tasks that were previously manual. The integration of AI agents, he says, is making applications more modern and effective.

Oracles’s agent platform allows customers to personalize and extend agents to meet their specific needs. “What’s really exciting here,” Miranda says, “is that the agents and their approachability, if you will, or their ease of use [is] democratizing some of the technology. It’s that much easier for our customers for us to embed in the application, and then for our customers to extend, expand, and . . . further automate.”

Customer Feedback and Excitement About Agents (10:31)

Customers are excited about the ability to automate processes using AI agents, which has led to significant cost savings. They are realizing the potential of fully automating processes that were previously manual or semi-automated. Oracle’s goal is to help customers do more with less, making the applications more valuable. Miranda discusses how Oracle is building agents tailored to industries including healthcare and financial services.

The concept of agent workflows and orchestration involves automating and coordinating discrete transactions to streamline business processes. Miranda explains that Oracle is building out agent workflows to help customers navigate and run their businesses more efficiently. Orchestrating business processes is crucial for achieving greater automation and efficiency. There is significant potential for future advancements in agent orchestration and the ongoing evolution of business applications.

Pricing Strategy for AI Agents (15:13)

Oracle does not charge extra for AI agents, as they are included in the subscription price of its applications. “We’ve been delivering to them hundreds of features every quarter for several years, or for as long as they’ve been customers on our SaaS application. Now they’re getting AI agents as part of that,” he says.
