In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I explore how SAP’s AI assistant, Joule, is set to revolutionize enterprise productivity for 300 million users by the end of the year
Highlights
00:21 — In his opening keynote at SAP Sapphire, Christian Klein said that by the end of this year, 300 million SAP users will be deeply engaged with Joule, SAP’s AI assistant. Those users will be engaging with Joule for at least 80% of the most used SAP applications, which he says, will make them 20% more productive.
01:31 — This makes SAP’s customers and its users leaders in this AI revolution. SAP has powerful partnerships with Google Cloud, Microsoft, AWS, and NVIDIA. Microsoft has a deep integration of Joule with the Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365. It’s going to be hugely important for a staggering number of users.
02:07 — Within NVIDIA, it’s got three use cases: specific AI from NVIDIA embedded in Joule to help create ABAP code; helping consultants steer clients to faster and better outcomes for the RISE with SAP program; and third, AI for complex manufacturing situations, including industrial digital twins.

02:40 — These numbers speak to scale, speed, and scope of ambition that is breathtaking. It’s also one that is great to see. It isn’t so much about the technology underlying it, but how are customers are going to use, deploy, and gain value from it to make their companies better, faster, smarter, more nimble, and more opportunistic.
03:34 — I think Klein very purposefully put himself out there with this big projection because he knows it’s going to put SAP out clearly as the leader in this key area of AI assistant/copilot adoption. With SAP’s incredible position in enterprise applications and the data it has for customers, this could be a very powerful move.
