Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily cloud news and commentary show. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the cloud.
This episode is sponsored by Acceleration Economy’s Cloud Wars Top 10 Course, available on demand. The course defines the vision driving the cloud industry forward and explores how organizations are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the cloud.
In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I introduce our upcoming CEO Outlook series, which kicks off Tuesday. The series will include transformative insights from extensive interviews with CEOs from Google Cloud, Oracle, SAP, ServiceNow, Workday, IBM, and Snowflake.
Highlights
00:40 — As we enter 2024, there are certainly challenges in a variety of forms. But I think there’s so much optimism. One way that we here at Cloud Wars and Acceleration Economy are trying to help share that message is this upcoming series, CEO Outlook 2024, where we speak with the CEOs of many of the Cloud Wars Top 10 companies.
01:37 — We have, for each of these, a one-on-one video interview with each CEO, accompanied by an article. Our schedule: Tomorrow, January 16, we’ll feature SAP’s Christian Klein, who is our CEO of the Year for 2023. On January 18, we’ll have Oracle’s CEO Safra Catz, CEO of the Year in 2022.
02:33 — On the 22nd, we’ll have Workday’s Carl Eschenbach, who technically will still be the co-CEO. On the 23rd, we’ll have Snowflake’s Frank Slootman with his always punchy ideas. On January 25, IBM’s Arvind Krishna, as Krishna enters his fifth year as CEO. On the 29th, we’ll have ServiceNow’s Bill McDermott, who has turned ServiceNow into a global phenomenon. And on February 5, Google Cloud’s Thomas Kurian, who has taken the company to the number two spot on the Cloud Wars Top 10.

03:44 — We wanted to try in the interviews to not have a flood of statistics. What’s the mindset of some of these leaders? What’s the culture of these companies? How do they approach growth? What’s their sense of optimism about things? What are the technology trends that they think are most important?
04:21 — We tried to make this sweeping to give business leaders a chance to understand more clearly: Who are these companies? What’s their position? Where are they headed, and how well are they going to align with me and my needs?
04:56 — The series kicks off tomorrow. I have an article later today on Acceleration Economy where I’ll go into a little more detail.
