Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily cloud news and commentary show. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the cloud.
In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I kick off our CEO Outlook 2025 series with a look at my conversation featuring Oracle CEO Safra Catz, discussing key trends in cloud adoption, bold business transformations, and Oracle’s strategic initiatives.
Highlights
00:01 — One of the big messages from Oracle CEO Safra Catz was that customers in 2025 are going to be all in on the cloud. They know that’s how to modernize, take advantage of all their data, become full participants in the AI revolution, and achieve their business objectives of growth, getting closer to customers, dazzling those customers, and moving into new areas.
01:00 — Catz almost never speaks in public. This is a pretty cool opportunity to see what Safra Catz thinks about a lot of things in this very unscripted conversation. She said the customer is embracing this idea that they need to be bold. They can’t just have the cloud become a replacement for technology they had before without changing what they do.
AI Agent & Copilot Summit NA is an AI-first event to define opportunities, impact, and outcomes with Microsoft Copilot and agents for mid-market and enterprise companies. It takes place March 17-19 in San Diego, CA. Register now to attend.
01:54 — She talked about customers working with technology partners who can help them solve end-to-end processes. She said otherwise, you just end up with fragmented pieces and have different vendors pointing at each other about where the problem lies.
03:14 — Catz said that fragementation is out of whack with the needs of the healthcare field, where hospitals, clinics, and laboratories had to take up that effort to integrate and make it all work together. Customers need complete, end-to-end systems. She talked about the multi-cloud miracle when Oracle signed agreements with Microsoft, Google Cloud, and AWS.
04:01 — We talked about the significance of giving customers more openness and flexibility. For her CTO, whose name happens to be Larry Ellison, Catz assured me that it’s going to be a busy year for him, and talked about some of the fun that Ellison is having in different areas. We have the full-length video that you can watch, and also an article later today.
