Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder, Bob Evans. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud. Today’s topic: Oracle Q3 Earnings Preview, as Larry Ellison Plays the Long Game.
Highlights
0:10 – Oracle is moving up the ranks of fastest-growing companies in the Cloud Wars Top 10. Of course, a key factor in its ongoing success is founder Larry Ellison, who has been either the CEO or Chairman of the company for its entire 40-year history. Bob says that Larry Ellison is the master of the long game, so he’s going to be paying close attention to what Oracle emphasizes on its upcoming and pivotal earnings call next month.
1:20 – Bob has a list of six points and themes that he expects to come up when Oracle announces its fiscal-year Q3 results. First is vertical clouds, both on the infrastructure and application side of the business. Second, data security, as Oracle was recently granted the highest possible level of security access by the U.S. defense community. Third is ERP, fourth is Autonomous Database and its new compatibility with competitors like MongoDB, and fifth is the ongoing built-out of global data centers. And finally, Ellison will likely call back to a recent comment of his about building “a new generation of B2B cloud services.”
2:45 – Within Ellison’s long game, Oracle seems to be currently focused on getting its fundamentals absolutely right, beating its peers in key areas, and then being intensely competitive. We’ll hear and learn more when Oracle announces earnings, which should be around March 10, 2022.
