In the Acceleration Economy Cloud Wars Top 10 CEO Outlook 2023 series, Bob Evans interviewed Christian Klein, CEO of SAP. The company ranks #5 on the Cloud Wars Top 10. In this CEO Outlook moment, Klein explains how SAP helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) build software, enabling them to scale and automate. He also defines the SAP Build platform.

Highlights

00:12 — Klein explains how there will be an announcement coming that targets small- and medium-sized companies, noting that “80% of our customers are coming from the small- and mid-sized enterprise space.”

00:36 — What’s in it for these customers? Klein shares that they want to have software that helps them scale and automate without having to wait months for it to go live. These SME customers are “the next Walmarts and Porsches of the world.”

01:18 — Klein explains how SAP Build is an app for employees, which was built out of the desire to enable IT teams, customers, and citizen developers to create new applications on the fly. SAP Build ensures that customers, developers, and IT teams have the platform to do so.

01:46 — “We want to play out our strengths, that’s the data model of SAP,” suggests Klein. The extensibility layer of SAP’s platform is extremely important.
