June’s live Cloud Wars Expo event featured dozens of industry leaders allowing the Acceleration Economy team access to the inner workings of the greatest growth market the world has ever known.
If you missed the Expo or just want to catch up on sessions you were not able to attend, then you’re in luck. We recorded more than 40 hours of education sessions from the event, which are available for free to Acceleration Economy subscribers. We’re also previewing the content in this series of Moments, which feature highlights from each session.
In this Cloud Wars Moment, taken from the Industry Cloud Battleground conversations on the retail industry, Carrie Tharp, VP Retail and Consumer at Google Cloud, explains one of the company’s solutions, Vertex Forecasting, as a way to drive business results.
Highlights
00:16 — Tharp describes one of Google Cloud’s solutions, called Vertex Forecasting. It was initially built as a specific retail demand forecasting capability but has evolved into a general forecasting capability. There is a “base that you start with…and tuning and model work that you have to do,” but Tharp says customers are seeing very strong results.
00:53 — The Google Cloud approach is not looking to build an end-to-end system, replace an SAP, or lock a user into a full platform. Vertex Forecasting is a “perfect example of a better answer plugged into whatever system you’re using,” explains Tharp.
01:31 — Google Cloud is focused on meeting customers where they are without maximizing change within an organization. The company’s goal is to give customers a “better answer that drives business results.”
