Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder, Bob Evans. The next three minutes are packed with insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud! Today’s Topic: Larry Ellison’s Plan for Oracle Cloud ERP Business
Highlights
0:13 – Cloud ERP is one of two products that the Oracle founder and chairman has said are key to Larry Ellison’s plan for the company’s future, along with Autonomous Database. On Oracle’s Q2 earnings call, Ellison said that if you include Cloud HCM along with Cloud ERP, the Oracle segment is now on almost a $5-billion annualized run rate.
0:42 – Larry Ellison also mentioned two specific reasons that he believes Oracle Cloud ERP has massive growth potential. The first is that there are lots of Oracle on-prem customers (about 7,500) that have not yet moved to the cloud.
01:10 – The second reason Ellison offered is a very innovative concept. He said that in the future, Oracle Fusion ERP could be a sort of “hub” for industry-specific solutions from Oracle. The solutions, wrapped around the Fusion ERP core, would give rise to new capabilities that we’ve never seen before.
02:00 – Larry Ellison’s plan to marry Oracle Fusion ERP with industry clouds is what is driving his belief that cloud ERP will be a $30-billion business for Oracle in the near future.
02:45 – Bob says that the vision Ellison laid out is both ambitious and compelling, and paints a picture of what ERP could become in the future.
