Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder Bob Evans. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud.

In this Cloud Wars Minute, Bob explains how Oracle might be making moves to partner with Google Cloud to advance in the multi-cloud era.

Highlights

00:18 — The move to multi-cloud has become a major trend in the greatest growth market, as different tech companies have expressed that they want to be able to pick the best clouds for various uses.

00:46 — Oracle has already partnered with Microsoft and made a deal with AWS. Bob speculates that next in line will be Google Cloud — he even believes that this deal could occur next month.

01:27 — Next month’s Oracle CloudWorld would be a great time to showcase a new agreement with Google Cloud, Bob suggests.

01:49 — Bob lists the reasons why he thinks this will happen:

  1. Because we’re in a data-powered economy and Oracle is the leading database operator, the company will need to be on all the popular databases to maintain its status.
  2. Larry Ellison has made it known that he is passionate about customer choice being the way of the future — and that puts us in the multi-cloud era.
  3. The deal with AWS was straight commerce.
  4. The power of customers has a big influence on the demand for multi-cloud.
  5. Google Cloud doesn’t want to be the odd hyperscaler out.
