In a recent series of social media posts, Mustafa Suleyman, the CEO of Microsoft AI, announced that OpenAI’s o1 reasoning model, which is presented by Microsoft as its Think Deeper feature, is now available free to all Copilot users. Previously, only Copilot Pro subscribers had access to this feature, which was launched in October 2024 in preview mode through Copilot Labs.
“This now gives everyone access to OpenAI’s world class o1 reasoning model in Copilot, everywhere at no cost. I urge you to give it a try. It’s truly magical,” Suleyman writes. “I’m genuinely so excited that our tens of millions of users are all getting this opportunity.”
What Is Think Deeper?
Think Deeper is Microsoft’s Copilot integration of OpenAI’s o1 model family, which was launched in September 2024. These models were developed to enhance reasoning capabilities. In practice, this means the models take more time to consider a response to a query and can efficiently handle more complex tasks in notoriously challenging fields, such as science and mathematics.
In Copilot, clicking the Think Deeper button allows users to obtain answers to complex questions from multiple perspectives and have these answers presented in a more digestible format. Suleyman gives the following example, “Brain dump everything into Think Deeper and watch it churn through it all and spit out a step by step guide to making it happen.
“I’ve tried this on a few things (fitness routine, big launch coming up) and it’s genuinely so helpful.”

It’s safe to say that, on a global scale, we have all grown accustomed to regular technology updates. Whether it’s a new iOS update for your iPhone or a more comprehensive addition to an existing SaaS application, improvements to current technologies are quite common.
However, rapid growth and unprecedented competition within the AI industry are causing software and infrastructure to evolve at a pace we haven’t seen before. The best part for consumers is that whenever one organization raises the bar, the rest of the competitors are compelled to follow suit.
While it’s fair to say that all leading AI service providers, and even the countries that host these companies, are employing a similar strategy — let’s call it the “anything you can do, I can do better” approach — Microsoft is in a unique position.
Having gained a first-mover advantage with Copilot and OpenAI, Microsoft also holds an enviable position as a provider of devices, software, and infrastructure. With a diverse audience that includes both retail consumers and enterprise clients, it’s clear how Microsoft can continue to assert leadership.
