In this exclusive interview with Bryan Goode, corporate vice president, business applications, Microsoft, Goode and Bob Evans, founder, Cloud Wars, explore how businesses are rapidly adopting AI, the intentional deployment of copilots and agents, the critical role of data, and how leaders can drive transformation by embracing AI-powered platforms and strategic partnerships.

Highlights

Customer Demand and AI Adoption (00:27)

Goode says that three out of four information workers are already using AI in their business operations. He notes the rapid scaling of small AI-native startups compared to traditional software-as-a-service (SaaS) startups. Among customers, there’s a clear shift in focus from whether to use AI to how and where to use it.

Intentional Deployment of AI (01:59)

“Where within an organization should AI implementation begin?” Goode says being intentional about deployment will achieve greater impact. Key functions like customer service, sales, finance, IT, and HR are often the initial focus for AI integration. A functionally focused approach, he explains, leads to better results.

Copilots and Agents Working Together (04:39)

It begins with Copilots and agents — Copilots as AI for every employee, and agents as automation tools for key business processes. Together, they can unlock significant productivity improvements. Goode explains that traditional business applications are being reimagined with AI, enhancing user experience, workflows, and data layers.

Agent-Application Interplay (04:55)

Goode clarifies that agents and applications work in tandem to offer new capabilities rather than replacing one another. While maintaining the importance of a system of record for core data, he stresses that the focus is now on enriching the user experience and adding value through AI. Legacy business applications are being transformed, moving away from forms-over-data models toward more meaningful experiences.

Data Significance and AI Success (05:53)

When asked about the significance of data for AI success, Goode emphasizes that good data leads to good AI and good outcomes. He underscores the importance of a robust data platform, pointing out that investing in a foundation that includes both structured and unstructured data is essential. Pulling in data from sources such as productivity applications can help unlock significant benefits.

Key Points for Business Leaders (06:39)

To summarize for business leaders, Goode advises being intentional about where AI is applied and focusing on specific business functions to yield better results. He recommends considering an enterprise agent platform to manage the scale and complexity of AI integration. A solid data foundation, he adds, is a prerequisite for success.

Business Transformation and Partner Role (07:53)

There are broader changes businesses must undergo to fully benefit from AI and agents. Goode stresses that leaders need to stay focused on business outcomes and lean on partners for guidance. He notes that nearly 80% of business leaders know they need AI but are seeking help in deploying it and measuring results. Partners play a vital role in guiding businesses through the transformation.
