In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I review CEO Thomas Kurian’s three reasons why Google Cloud is outgrowing Microsoft and Amazon.

Highlights

00:23 — During Google Cloud Next, CEO Thomas Kurian offered three specific reasons why he believes Google Cloud is growing faster than Microsoft and Amazon.

00:38 — Kurian’s big theme for Google Cloud has been around how the company is rapidly jumping into the world of AI, fusing the worlds of cloud and AI, so that customers gain the benefit of both.

00:55 — The first reason Kurian mentioned was data analytics. The big star of the show for Google Cloud going forward is going to be BigQuery, which will shift to being an AI-ready data platform. Kurian said that Google Cloud will be able to unlock possibilities with BigQuery that have not been possible before.

01:45 — The next reason is AI. Google has been working heavily with AI since it was founded, Kurian noted. Operating at such a large scale with a high level of security and the ability to constantly adapt, enhance, and innovate requires a lot of experience, which Google has.

02:35 — Now that Google has the experience and knowledge, Kurian said he felt that the company was well equipped when it comes to AI.

03:01 — The third piece is cybersecurity. With 70% of the world’s phones and PCs using Google Chrome, the company has unique insight into the different threat and penetration efforts that have been made against these devices.

03:33 — A few years ago, Google acquired Mandiant, which provided threat intelligence expertise.
