In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I uncover the strategic implications of Google Cloud’s alliance with Oracle, outlining 10 key advantages for businesses.
Highlights
00:17 — Google Cloud helped to rewrite the future for a lot of customers with its recent agreement with Oracle to establish a multi-cloud partnership. I had a conversation last week with Google Cloud VP and GM for databases, Andi Gutmans. I extracted what I believe are 10 specific customer benefits that Google Cloud and Gutmans believe this partnership is going to generate.
00:53 — First, more choices for customers. Number two is it allows customers to simplify their data estates, which in itself has many benefits. It accelerates their move to the cloud. Number three, no more data transfer fees for the Cross-Cloud Interconnect that Google Cloud and Oracle have set up. Number four, this boosts the hybrid cloud capabilities for a lot of customers.

02:17 — Number five, easy access for customers using Oracle databases and Google Cloud’s expansive portfolio of AI services and technologies. Number six, accelerate innovation. Number seven, faster time to value. Number eight, open is more than a buzzword. Google Cloud has always embraced openness and bringing Oracle into the Google Cloud fold only enhances that.
03:26 — It has always been important to Google Cloud to meet customers where they are. The fact is that customers use lots of different databases and technologies, and they want to be able to use both sometimes, but exactly how those customers want to use them, not to have this dictated by the technology vendors.
03:43 — It would be natural for customers to say, “When you two come together like this, can we as customers be assured that we’ll have at least the same level of security that each of you offers and perhaps even more enhanced?” And Andi offered a list of ways in which that’s definitely going to happen.
04:18 — I spell those out in an article that will be posted later this morning. We’ll also have within that article the full video interview with Andi Gutmans.
