Highlights
44 — Kenny says he looks for three things at conferences: What is the company’s message and where is it headed in terms of his technology interests; how does it differentiate itself; and what is the company doing to inspire him, as a CIO, to do something different in the context of his organization.
20 — In the keynote, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna introduced watsonX, a new enterprise-ready data and AI platform divided into watsonx.ai, watsonx.data, and watsonx.governance. The governance platform stands out as it addresses concerns about AI abuse and the exposure of trade secrets. IBM aims to enable the effective and safe use of AI.
32 — Krishna mentioned three key concepts, the first being hybrid cloud. This is a prevalent topic at the conference, as many understand that most companies are moving towards a hybrid cloud architecture, rather than fully or completely avoiding the cloud. Second was generative AI and combining that with hybrid cloud and other up-and-coming technologies like quantum computing. Third was co-creation; IBM emphasized collaboration with clients, partners, and other companies to create amazing things together.

50 — The other big first-day high point for Kenny was a presentation by Black Eyed Peas band member and Beats by Dre co-founder will.i.am on AI’s impact on creativity. “His presentation was fantastic,” says Kenny. “He clearly is an advanced thinker on AI and how it’s going to affect creatives and creativity and artists.” The session included audience questions, where the musician and technology entrepreneur stressed the need for control to prevent AI abuse, such as using someone’s likeness without permission.
