Each month, “Ammirati on Innovation” episodes will look at ways that the disruptive-startup mentality is spreading beyond young entrepreneurs to big established corporations. Serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist and Carnegie Mellon B-school professor Sean Ammirati, who sits at the intersection of these high-change dynamics, provides insight.
Episode 13
In this episode: Sean and I talk about spanning the gap between reopening businesses and reimagining the larger economy.
Sean says that we’re point where companies have made 80% of their investment in digital transformation. But they’ve only gotten about 20% of the value from that investment. The next big step is business model transformation: completely committing to digital-first models.
Speaking of transformation and reimagining chunks of the economy, we next turn to the Microsoft and FedEx partnership. Sean shares his thoughts on why Microsoft, and not archival Amazon, landed this immense and far-reaching deal.
As we wrap up, Sean says that we need to start looking at how we can take the situation we’re all in, and use it to make our companies better, stronger, and more vibrant. We owe it to our employees, our customers and our shareholders.
