Welcome to Episode 34 of the Cloud Wars Horizon Minute — featuring news and commentary hosted by Acceleration Economy analyst Tom Smith. Each episode provides insights into one or more Innovation Accelerators on the Cloud Wars Horizon. This episode touches on the financial results recently reported by tech bellwether Cisco.

Highlights

00:35 — The fourth quarter fiscal year 2022 report by Cisco delivered loads of insight into customer buying behavior, supply chains, and inventory issues

01:25 — On whether enterprise customers are pausing spending, CEO Chuck Robbins said, “I think if you ask our customers if they would pause spending during a crisis, they would probably respond, ‘When is there not going to be a crisis given what we’ve dealt with the last three years?’ And so, in general, we don’t hear a lot of difference.”

01:50 — Robbins said customers have a greater sense of urgency to leverage technology for business objectives…”We see significant opportunity ahead as these customers build out massively scalable cloud networks.”

02:14 — On inventory, component availability, and supply chains, execs said the company has redesigned “hundreds” of products to use alternative components and thereby address shortages.

03:00 —CFO Scott Herren said cash flow was down because the company was making advanced payments for inventory purchases to secure component supplies.
