Highlights

00:39 — Some companies are becoming dissatisfied with their cloud results, or even moving applications back in house.

0:39 — If companies viewed the cloud as a cost saving magic elixir, or they expected instant, easy results, disappointments would not be surprising.

0:39 — Cloud costs require active management just as any other capital or recurring expense does. Technology can help. Last year we profiled just one of the many startups attacking the problem: CloudThread aims to help companies actively manage their AWS costs and build a culture of cost accountability.

0:39 — Now, Palantir (which makes Big Data, analytics, AI, and DevOps tools) and Cloudflare (which makes security, cloud, and internet performance tools) said they’re working together to address cloud cost management.

0:39 — They’re enabling customers to leverage pre-built infrastructure in Palantir’s Foundry platform to understand their current cloud costs by integrating data from across cloud vendors and identifying opportunities to be more efficient.

0:39 — They’re also using the Palantir Apollo platform to reduce the burden on DevOps and improve customers’ gross margins. This is an acknowledgment of the key role developers play as the ones building the apps that are hosted in the cloud.

0:39 — It seems they’re going to push for migrations to Cloudflare as a a cloud-agnostic infrastructure provider.
