In this special “On Location” minute, Paul shares his impressions from the HIMSS23 Global Health Conference and Exhibition, which took place in Chicago last week. This update drills down specifically on the Oracle and Zoom partnership, as well as Oracle’s specific investments and initiatives in generative AI and healthcare innovation.

To hear practitioner and platform insights on how solutions such as ChatGPT will impact the future of work, customer experience, data strategy, and cybersecurity, make sure to register for your on-demand pass to Acceleration Economy’s Generative AI Digital Summit.

Highlights

00:30 — Paul says it was fascinating to talk to the Oracle Team, which was thrilled about the Zoom announcement. Oracle hopes this new partnership and the sharing of capabilities will open up doors in telehealth and remote patient monitoring, both of which are hot topics in healthcare and health life science right now. Candidly, Paul thinks this is something that Oracle really needs. Other vendors already have some of these capabilities put in place; Microsoft Teams, for example, can already be used for home health. So, this is big news for Oracle as it fills a void.

01:27 — The second thing that Oracle is excited about is the recent announcement it broke a record for processing the human genome in just 19.2 minutes using NVIDIA Parabricks, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and eight NVIDIA A100 GPUs in a single node (and another record for the same achievement in 32.9 minutes using just four GPUs).

02:35 — Paul says there’s more to this announcement than appears on the surface. Oracle, along with everyone else, is interested in the NVIDIA chips. When he asked Oracle about generative AI and what its answer would be to Microsoft, GE, and other companies in this regard, both in and out of healthcare, he learned that Oracle has been investing in talent and technology.

04:11 — Paul also mentions a startup called Adept that has a GPT-like technology that runs on the Oracle cloud, so Oracle is already partnering with companies in the generative AI space.

04:42 — Paul’s overall take is that he is happy to see that Oracle is hiring people, creating partnerships, and investing in talent, which gives him the sense that it is 100% invested in this technology. Already, the company’s partnership with Ronin has saved patients, which demonstrates how invested the company is in healthcare.
