Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder, Bob Evans. The next three minutes are packed with insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud! Today’s Topic: Oracle Launches Industry Cloud Blitz on Q2 Earnings Call
Highlights
0:20 – Among lots of interesting themes on the Oracle Q2 earnings call, the unmistakable blitz into industry cloud led by Larry Ellison and CEO Safra Catz was quite notable. In her opening remarks, Catz mentioned industry-specific solutions as being a major driver behind Oracle’s revenue growth. Bob says this is the first time he can recall Catz mentioning industry clouds with this much prominence.
01:10 – Catz also said that Oracle customers have come to expect that salespeople and the larger Oracle team should understand the customers business just as well as the customer does. That is an important trend not just for Oracle, but for the cloud market overall.
01:40 – As other Cloud Wars Minute videos have touched on, Larry Ellison also spoke about industry clouds on the earnings call. Specifically, he talked about plans to interconnect industry-specific solutions with Oracle’s highly successful Fusion ERP offerings.
02:25 – Ellison says he believes that Oracle will develop an entirely new wave of B2B cloud services, and many of these will be co-created with Oracle’s customers. Financial Services, Healthcare and Logistics are three industries where Oracle is especially active and focused.
02:40 – As a sign of how new this outlook is for Oracle, Ellison referred to the customers with which Oracle will develop new cloud solutions as “partners.” Bob says that you could go back 40 years and never see Ellison using that language.
