From revolutionizing the quick-service food industry to accelerating banking operations to elevating customer experiences at Uber, businesses across every industry are eagerly adopting AI to delight customers while boosting revenue, according to Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian.
In a blog post outlining Google Cloud’s wide-ranging and impressive portfolio of new Generative-AI technologies released at Google I/O 2023, Kurian offered an extensive overview of the company’s latest release of new generative enterprise-AI offerings. Those include:
- A “generative AI-powered collaborator” called Duet AI for Google Cloud, which the Kurian blog post says has the ability to “fundamentally transform the way cloud users of all skill sets build new experiences and is embedded across Google Cloud interfaces — within the integrated development environment (IDE), Google Cloud Console, and even chat”
- New foundation models and capabilities that help developers create GenAI applications more simply and quickly
While those new technologies are certainly compelling, what really caught my eye were the customer examples cited in Kurian’s blog post. While I expected to see some from within the tech industry in general and the AI category in particular, the customer stories also included the well-known consumer brands cited in the headline above: Wendy’s, Uber, and Deutsche Bank.
Here are a few highlights for each of those well-known global brands, and while I believe each one offers some powerful perspectives on the impact that generative enterprise AI is having already, the impression hammered home from all three is unmistakable: that the near-term use cases for GenAI at the enterprise level are limitless, transformative, and immediately available.
In the blog post, Kurian described the far-flung applications in which businesses are putting generative AI to work as customers “are using our generative AI technologies to create engaging content, synthesize and organize information, automate business processes, and build amazing customer experiences.”
And we’re not talking about some PoC’s whose full-blown impact will be felt a few years from now — this is very real, and it’s happening right now.
- Deutsche Bank “is testing Google’s generative AI and large language models (LLMs) at scale to provide new insights to financial analysts, driving operational efficiencies and execution velocity,” the blog post says. Deutsche Bank believes the tests have the potential to “significantly reduce the time it takes to perform banking operations” while also boosting employee productivity as well as strengthening cybersecurity in the areas of customer data privacy, data integrity, and system security.
- Uber “is creating generative AI for customer-service chatbots and agent assist capabilities” with the goal of boosting customer satisfaction while also lowering operational costs. Uber is also leaning on Google Cloud’s new releases to enhance Uber’s capabilities in everything from product development to fraud detection to employee productivity.
- Wendy’s “is working with Google Cloud on a groundbreaking AI solution, Wendy’s FreshAI, designed to revolutionize the quick-service restaurant industry,” the blog post says. “The technology is transforming Wendy’s drive-thru food-ordering experience with Google Cloud’s generative AI and LLMs — with the ability to discern the billions of possible order combinations on the Wendy’s menu.” A pilot test is scheduled for June at a single Wendy’s restaurant near Columbus, Ohio.
