Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder Bob Evans. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud.
In this Cloud Wars Minute, Bob Evans describes how in Q3 SAP reclaimed the title of the world’s largest vendor of enterprise applications back from Salesforce.
Highlights
00:12 — Three months ago, history was made in the Cloud Wars world: Salesforce eclipsed SAP as the world’s largest vendor of enterprise applications in both cloud and on-premise applications — a title SAP has held for more than 40 years.
00:35 — When Salesforce released its fiscal Q2 numbers in late August, its total revenue was $7.72 billion in comparison to SAP’s quarterly earnings of $7.52 billion that SAP released a month prior — the two companies operate on different quarterly reporting cycles.
01:06 — This week, Salesforce reported $7.84 billion in fiscal Q3 earnings. SAP reported that its fiscal Q3 earnings were $8.23 billion, reclaiming its title as the world’s largest vendor of enterprise applications.
02:00 — Salesforce saw a growth rate of 14% in Q3 — a much lower number than it has seen in the past several years. SAP is growing at a much quicker rate than Salesforce and Bob predicts SAP will hold the top seat for some time.
