In this Cloud Wars Minute, Bob Evans reviews the bold comments made by OpenAI and Microsoft, which claim to “shape the trajectory of humanity” with their technological developments.

00:35 — Over the past six weeks, the world has been “knocked off its axis” with the introduction of ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI.
00:48 — 3.5 years ago, Microsoft invested $1 billion in OpenAI. Bob finds the announcement from OpenAI that came out of this deal troubling. He wants both companies to know they should “keep their hands off our humanity.”
01:21 — In a Microsoft blog post, the company stated that, through this partnership, they will create “the most important technological development in human history.” In the same blog, Microsoft shared a direct quote from the CEO of OpenAI, who said this technological development “will shape the trajectory of humanity.”
02:33 — Bob is concerned about these claims, as he does not want the trajectory of his humanity to be shaped by OpenAI and Microsoft.
03:26 — Words matter, especially in a time when technology can have tremendous impacts — and also consequences; the world must be careful with its language. Bob suggests that “Microsoft ought to know better than to say things like that,” or to have its name associated with a partnership making these claims.
