Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily cloud news and commentary show. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the cloud.
In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I share my thoughts on what SAP will reveal at its upcoming “Business Unleashed” event.
Highlight
00:24 — On February 13, SAP is going to announce one of its biggest product innovations ever, at an event called “Business Unleashed.” I believe the key focus will be on new advancements in data — possibly taking SAP’s Datasphere fabric to a whole new level, maybe even calling it something like a data cloud. The main objective will be organizing data in a way that truly powers these agents.
01:08 — On the earnings call, while discussing this major announcement, CEO Christian Klein stated that currently, 50% of IT budgets go to the vast field of data and analytics. Yet the outcomes are not what they should be. Klein emphasized that this initiative will integrate structured and unstructured data, both SAP and non-SAP data, enabling AI agents to leverage it effectively.
02:16 — Klein stated that Joule will serve as the orchestrator of these agents. Looking at a major competitor, Salesforce, its Data Cloud is, according to CEO Marc Benioff, the fastest-growing product its ever had. The new Agentforce AI agents tie directly into this Data Cloud, allowing data to be connected from multiple sources.
AI Agent & Copilot Summit NA is an AI-first event to define opportunities, impact, and outcomes with Microsoft Copilot and agents for mid-market and enterprise companies. It takes place March 17-19 in San Diego, CA. Register now to attend.
03:12 — SAP’s move could be a huge breakthrough for customers, allowing them to tap into data that has, until now, been hard to get at. We are seeing a hyper-evolution among the major companies traditionally called enterprise applications companies. Of course, they are still apps companies, but they are also data companies, AI companies, agent companies, orchestrators, and platform companies.
04:04 — We may need to start looking at this landscape in a new way. We’ll see what comes up here in about 10 days on February 13 when SAP makes its announcement. This should be very interesting, and it continues to raise the bar in the ferocious competition of the Cloud Wars Top 10.
