Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily cloud news and commentary show. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the cloud.
In this Cloud Wars Minute, co-host Kieron Allen details executive thinking on GenAI, based on research from IBM.
Highlights
00:07 — A new report from IBM, The Ingenuity of Generative AI, sheds light on how the business community has embraced the GenAI revolution and what to expect form here. IBM surveyed 5,000 executives across 24 countries and 25 industries.
00:25 — Among respondents, 77% say GenAI is market-ready, and that response is up from only 36% in 2023. Another indicator that skepticism has transformed into optimism: 62% believe GenAI is more reality than hype, while 77% say they need to adopt GenAI quickly to keep up with competitors; that figure is up from 38% in 2023.
01:01 — The report also found that one in three companies paused an AI use case after its pilot phase; some analysts believe this figure is due to the complexity of GenAI deployment. My takeaways:
- The tech industry has done an incredible job developing GenAI products for enterprise use cases that deliver results
- While the rate of innovation around GenAI is outstanding, technology providers must look to lower the barriers to entry for more complex tools; if they do so, the payback will be huge.
