Highlights
00:32 — Starting today, Bob will be kicking off the Cloud Wars CEO Outlook series, in which he speaks with the leaders of the world’s largest and most influential cloud providers, starting with Thomas Kurian of Google Cloud.
01:25 — Bob shares some key points that Kurian touched on during the interview, which are available in greater depth in the full-length video, as well as later today in the Cloud Wars News article.
01:30 — Kurian explained that customers are continuing to invest pretty aggressively in projects, despite the conversations taking longer and more scrutiny. Customers are viewing these projects through three lenses:
- Helping the company grow
- Reduce risks
- Engage the workforce
02:11 — Bob and Kurian also discussed the increasing incidence of Google Cloud customers with long, strategic engagements. Kurian says a reason behind this is that these engagements are more than technology transformations; they are business transformations that change the nature of what customers are able to do.
02:50 — In the case of exploiting modern technology, Google Cloud partnered with the Mayo Clinic. The organizations have partnered around AI and ML to work on identifying and treating rare diseases. Within the context of redefining marketing, Kurian spoke about Google Cloud’s relationship with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, in which the companies are working together to give the public more access to what is taking place in these exchanges. Finally, Kurian detailed the relationship between Google Cloud and Renault, which are working together to revolutionize markets through their collaboration efforts on a software-defined vehicle.
04:10 — Kurian offered some insights, which Bob found to be interesting. Kurian classified Google Cloud as the “new kid on the block,” being only four years old under Thomas Kurian. Additionally, Google Cloud is focused on solving the problems of today, while creating new opportunities for tomorrow.
04:40 — The fascinating discussion covered insights into what Google Cloud customers are doing, how the company is remaking itself and its culture amid rapid changes.
