Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily cloud news and commentary show. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the cloud.
This episode is sponsored by Acceleration Economy’s “Cloud Wars Top 10 Course,” which explains how Bob Evans builds and updates the Cloud Wars Top 10 ranking, as well as how C-suite executives use the list to inform strategic cloud purchase decisions. The course is available today.
In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I share my main takeaways from my time at Oracle CloudWorld.
Highlights
00:31 — First, I’ve never seen all the different product lines at Oracle as cohesive and collaborative and able to tell the story of how one helps the other. For example, Steve Miranda, the head of applications, said when you buy Oracle Applications, you also get a new database, operating system, servers, networking, and cybersecurity.
01:07 — Second, Oracle is ideally positioned for both Gen AI and AI. It’s been in the AI game for a long time. It’s able to train large language models 50% to 80% faster than anybody else. Third, in cloud cybersecurity, the capabilities that Oracle can offer are becoming now an accelerator for financial services companies and other regulated areas like healthcare.
01:48— Fourth, it’s a multi-cloud pioneer, what it did with Microsoft is big. Oracle is making the case that customers should be able to use as many clouds as they want, whenever and wherever they want. Number five, Larry Ellison talked about the Oracle Healthcare Data Intelligence Platform. He said this is perhaps the most important product Oracle is working on right now.
02:27 — Sixth was the Financial Data Intelligence Platform. Oracle now has 50 use cases for Fusion Applications around Gen AI. The last is the Oracle Industries team, run by Mike Sicilia. It has always been an important part of Oracle’s business but has become very much so now.
03:43 — The other thing is Oracle leadership. CEO Safra Catz’ keynote featuring six world-class customers was rousing and well-received. It wasn’t so much about Oracle technology, but instead about the mindset, the will to win, the courage to change, and the willingness to step forward and turn your vision into reality.
04:11 — Then, the other leader, Larry Ellison, gave a really remarkable view about what he thinks type of future these technologies that change the world is going to lead to. He’s got Oracle into robots, police cars, as well as healthcare databases that are moving into production. It was a great few days for Oracle and Oracle CloudWorld.
