At Cloud Wars, we continually track emerging partnerships that support the customer journey into the cloud and ultimately AI, while also enhancing these technologies for everyone. One such collaboration recently announced is between Google Cloud and Atlassian Corporation.

For those unfamiliar with Atlassian, the Australian-American software company specializes in collaborative team products, notably Jira, its renowned project management tool. At the same time, Atlassian Cloud is used by over 300,000 companies worldwide. So, what does this mean for new and existing customers?

There is, of course, the connection to Google Workspace — another key product in the collaboration and productivity space, but when you add Google Cloud’s AI capabilities into the mix, you can expect something special. Here’s a breakdown of what the two companies hope to achieve for their customers.

AI Agent & Copilot Summit is an AI-first event to define opportunities, impact, and outcomes with Microsoft Copilot and agents. Building on its 2025 success, the 2026 event takes place March 17-19 in San Diego. Get more details.

AI-Powered Productivity

The multi-year partnership between Google Cloud and Atlassian aims to enhance Atlassian’s AI-driven platform and dedicated applications, including Jira, Confluence, and Loom, with Google Cloud’s infrastructure. Additionally, the collaboration will feature integrations between the companies’ products. Specifically, Atlassian will utilize Google’s Gemini models and Vertex AI to enhance agentic AI use cases, ultimately increasing customer productivity.

With Atlassian’s applications available through the Google Cloud Marketplace, this initiative is designed to boost adoption and facilitate easier access for customers who can use allocated  Google Cloud funds. “Atlassian is making a significant, long-term commitment for customers on Google Cloud, bringing the power of our Gemini models and Google Workspace to customers globally,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud.

“With its core products like Jira and Confluence running on our trusted infrastructure, we will help enterprises accelerate innovation with agentic AI.”

From a security and privacy perspective, the availability of Atlassian’s apps on Google Cloud will enable customers to benefit from the built-in security measures on the infrastructure and reliability, delivered through services like Cloud Spanner. Regarding AI integration, one example is the integration of Rovo, Atlassian’s agent/copilot, which includes Vertex AI and Gemini models for advanced custom interoperable agent building.

The ability to connect Google Workspace with Atlassian apps will provide instant access to Google Workspace for knowledge and data surfacing. Users will be able to access Atlassian apps directly from within the Google Cloud ecosystem and utilize Gemini within Workspace for instant querying, streamlining their workflows and enhancing productivity.

Closing Thoughts

The partnership between Google Cloud and Atlassian is significant as it highlights what Google Cloud can achieve as an AI enabler. It showcases how Google Cloud’s three core attributes — security, scalability, and advanced AI innovation — are essential for a SaaS company to advance, and how these offerings are perfectly suited for integration.

Google Cloud is actively involved in the AI revolution at multiple levels. As a provider of cutting-edge AI tools and the preferred platform for AI integration across major systems — many of which already have their own proprietary AI technologies. Google Cloud serves as a catalyst for AI innovation and a hub for AI products. This is a strong position to have in the burgeoning AI revolution.
