IBM’s new positioning, post-Covid, is that of a leaner, fitter organization with a focus on hybrid and multi-cloud, because customers operate a mix of on-premises, off-premises and hybrid systems Boville said, with all the variants of multi-cloud — IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS. Rather than assuming that cloud is the answer to all customer problems, “What’s more important is understanding the questions you’re looking to solve,” he said.
For customers, one of the primary benefits of a multi-cloud approach is protecting themselves from being locked out of cloud innovation from the major players – AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and more. “More and more customers recognize that’s about architecture – they have to get back to the basic principles of strong architecture” that includes building systems in such a way that they effectively tie together legacy and new technology, Boville explained.
