In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I give a preview of my recent insightful conversation with ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott, part of the CEO Outlook 2024 series.
Highlights
00:01 — A big point Bill McDermott made was that companies might think, “Geez, if I’m bringing in new stuff, I have to tear out some old stuff,” but, with ServiceNow, customers don’t have to undergo that. Instead, it builds on top of their existing technology and then fills in gaps that have come around as these new business processes, engagement models, and business models come in.
01:15 — ServiceNow is one of the fastest-growing companies in the Cloud Wars Top 10. It was number one in our growth chart for a while, but they were edged out by Google Cloud. But ServiceNow is right there with them.
02:21 — McDermott said we’d like to fill in the gaps that are left between older applications and modern ones that reflect the new needs of current, up-to-date modern processes. He also said that GenAI is at the heart of so much of what business transformation is and that ServiceNow had an early start on AI.

03:11 — I also want to just say a couple of things about this huge new deal with Visa. It’s such an interesting new trend where customers are now becoming partners. So it’s a five-year deal with Visa. They want to completely transform the digital payments services business.
04:03 — But McDermott said it’s funny, some other companies have seen the partnership and said, “Hey, is why is Visa getting all the fun?” He said he sees this as a template for how a company like ServiceNow can expand its ecosystem and its presence.
04:47 — It was an uplifting, energizing, and optimistic conversation with ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott. It’s always fun to speak with him and get his ideas on where the world is headed and how he thinks ServiceNow is uniquely qualified to help businesses get there.
