In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I explore the dynamic realm of AI adoption, focusing on the rapid evolution witnessed in the collaboration between Google Cloud and global telecompany Orange.
Highlights
00:16 — Very interesting time last week at Google Cloud Next. A great customer story that came out of that was how Google Cloud helped Orange, go from an AI pilot to production in just four weeks. Some businesses right now are taking four weeks to assemble a blue-ribbon panel to spend a year evaluating what to do with AI.
01:31 — This is more the timetable that is going to happen in the world here going forward. Orange CEO Christel Heydemann said it wanted to accelerate value creation end-to-end in the organization. It’s not a little bit here, there in certain departments. And it wanted to move quickly.

02:36 — Google Cloud and Orange have had strategic partnerships going back to 2020. This is an evolution of what they’ve been doing over time. At Next, Orange announced that it was greatly expanding the partnership with Google Cloud, to achieve three particular types of business goals.
03:38 — It’s reaching a stage where cloud is the delivery vehicle, but also, since lots of businesses will, for various reasons, be either acquired or decide to keep some on-premise systems, cloud capabilities have to be extended into those environments. This is a big part of what Google Cloud offers with its Google Distributed Cloud, Vertex AI, and many other pieces.
04:12 — It’s a very interesting story of a big company operating around the world in a complex, fast-changing business, looking to use AI, not in a particular point solution but wanting it to become a foundational part of all they do. It’s moving at an extremely aggressive pace here.
04:44 — The CEO is saying this is going to be a value driver end-to-end. It’s going to create value from all of our data. It is one of those things that leading companies in their industries are going to have to do, and I take my hat off to Orange for what it has done so far and to Google Cloud.
