Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily cloud news and commentary show. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the cloud.
In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I discuss Salesforce’s AI-centric hiring plans, which add to its momentum in this area.
Highlights
00:03 — Salesforce plans to add 2,000 salespeople to sell its AI products, doubling the number that CEO Marc Benioff announced in November. The company has already received 9,000 referrals for these roles, and the news comes as Salesforce plans to launch the second generation of AgentForce, which will be available to customers in February 2025.
00:25 — This development comes just two years after Salesforce laid off over 7,000 employees, which was at the time, around 10% of its workforce, in response to challenging economic conditions. Many other tech companies conducted layoffs as well and the effects are still being felt.
01:01 — The emergence of AI is changing the nature of business and disrupting processes and standards across the board, and it’s also presenting numerous opportunities, especially when it comes to creating new job opportunities. Here’s hoping this is the beginning of a broader reset.
