Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily cloud news and commentary show. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the cloud.

This episode is sponsored by Acceleration Economy’s “Cloud Wars Top 10 Course,” which explains how Bob Evans builds and updates the Cloud Wars Top 10 ranking, as well as how C-suite executives use the list to inform strategic cloud purchase decisions. The course is available today.

In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I look at Microsoft’s latest offerings for the healthcare market, which seek to break down data silos.

Highlights

00:20 — A huge area of growth for Microsoft and others is the healthcare market. It’s estimated that some hospitals can create up to 50 petabytes of data every year but can only harness about 3% of that. Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare is looking to address this.

01:17 — It’s going to be able to deliver better patient outcomes because physicians, clinicians, and nurses are going to be able to see the entire history of what’s going on with the patient. It’s broken down data silos by bringing in more industry-specific models and capabilities. It’s looking for better privacy.

01:55 — The big goal here for Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare is to say “we’re going to pull everything together. Our customers in hospitals, healthcare systems, and clinics are going to be able to spend more time working with patients and less time in thankless, often fruitless attempts to pull together data from mismatched systems.”

02:29 — It’s a decades-old problem. These data silos have been hardened over those decades. I wish them, and all of the companies looking to try to make better headway with what’s going on in healthcare with AI, data, and analytic offerings, well.
