In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I discuss the latest developments in quantum computing and how IBM is positioning itself as a leader in the field.
Highlights
00:20 — Right on the heels of the incredible things that have been happening with the AI revolution, we’re getting real close to seeing the first impact of the looming quantum revolution. And I think IBM might be willing to lay claim now to the fact that it is the leading vendor in this field. It’s recently opened its second quantum data center, based in Germany.
01:02 —It’s opening up what it calls its quantum network to a new range of companies, universities, and research organizations in Germany and across Europe. It’s also addressing looming data sovereignty issues. A number of the partners and customers that IBM had at its ceremony cited this notion of data sovereignty as a key issue.
02:02 — IBM has 250 companies and enterprises, research organizations, and universities as part of its quantum network. The head of the innovation team at the Volkswagen Group said that quantum computing can solve problems in material science, traffic management, and others that may change the world.
03:17 — Quantum computing is totally unlike traditional computing, or what the quantum industry calls classic computing. It’s just a way of saying that even if you take the most incredible new clusters that are powering the AI data centers of today, those will seem almost prehistoric relative to what quantum computing and quantum data centers will be able to produce.
04:11 — The cloud is going to harness the power of quantum computing, making it accessible now to businesses of every size, universities, hospitals, research centers, and schools across the world. Just as it has done with AI, IBM deserves to be cited as the leading quantum vendor in moving quantum computing into a commercial reality.
