Highlights
00:30 — Bob notes that he was impressed by the comments made by CEO Andy Jassy last week on Amazon’s earnings call. Jassy doesn’t appear often on these earnings calls, but this time, he did.
01:05 — Jassy noted that there is still a lot of growth in front of AWS right now. 90%-95% of information technology (IT) spending is allotted to on-premise systems and software maintenance. As IT spending starts to shift to the cloud, “that’s when the next wave of massive growth is going to come.”
01:49 — Jassy said that the challenge in front of AWS involves continuing to create the best possible customer experiences.
02:08 — Bob says that Jassy distinguished himself by stating that AWS is not focused on short-term results, but rather on building relationships that will outlast all of us.
03:10 — There is huge growth potential over the next several years for AWS. Bob encourages other Cloud Wars leaders to take a page from Jassy’s book, in being mindful of the short-term results but also continuing to focus on long-term relationships which will drive business value.
03:30 — This is an example of brilliant leadership, particularly at a time when AWS has seen its growth rate double in a year.
