Highlights
00:03 — Klein recently shared his thoughts on AI governance with The Financial Times of the UK, detailing differences between the European Union (EU) approach to AI regulation vs. that of the US. He said he’s against regulating the technology and said it would harm the competitiveness of Europe significantly.
00:34 — He also highlighted the difference between the EU and the US in terms of limitations on data usage for AI development, which could impact European organizations. This issue is fundamental, if not the most important, issue regarding AI development going forward.
00:56 — While the EU is forging ahead with governance initiatives, Callifornia Governor Gavin Newsom recently vetoed a state AI bill under pressure from tech companies. But governance is critical. Even Jeffrey Hinton, widely cited as the “godfather of AI” and a new Noble Prize recipient for his work in the sector, has said he worries about the prospect of systems that are more intelligent than people and might take control.
01:32 — Tech companies butting heads with government will prevent real progress; instead, a collaborative effort is needed, and tech leaders like Klein must be part of the conversation.
