During last week’s launch of Gemini agent, Google Cloud shared 12 eye-popping examples of Gemini Enterprise delivering superb ROI for customers and revealed that the vast majority of the Fortune 100 have adopted the AI platform.
“Almost 500 Google Cloud customers each processed more than 1 trillion tokens in the last year,” CEO Thomas Kurian said at the launch event. “At that volume you are not experimenting — you are running the business on it.” Kurian said that about 79% of Google Cloud customers are using its AI products, including “nearly 90%” of the Fortune 100 that are using Gemini Enterprise.
The rise of Gemini Enterprise and the powerful customer demand cited by Kurian were surely big factors in the explosive 82% growth Google Cloud posted for Q2, and last week’s introduction of Gemini agent will add yet more momentum for the #1 company on the Cloud Wars Top 10.
But what really grabbed my attention were the examples of powerful business outcomes with Gemini Enterprise cited by Kurian, and I’d like to share a dozen or so of those customer-success stories.
- Department of Defense. “Some of the most conservative, highly regulated organizations in the world are running in production — including 25 global banks, healthcare networks, and the U.S. Department of Defense, which has deployed Gemini to 3 million personnel who have built more than 100,000 custom agents,” Kurian said.
- Commerzbank slashed $30 million in annual document-processing costs.
- NTT cut 300,000 hours from data-access and -retrieval processes, chopping the time required “from 2 weeks to instantly.”
- Globo accelerated its review of creative advertising material by 3X.
- Banco BV reduced time needed for personalized client communications by 80%.
- Grupo Marista reduced the time needed for analyzing hospital claims from 72 hours to 4 hours.
- Liverpool, “one of Mexico’s largest retailers, built a product-discovery agent on Gemini Enterprise and had it live in one week,” Kurian said. “One week–and it is forecast to return 10X what it cost.” In citing that example, Kurian said it typifies a new orientation in how customers think about AI: “The question I get most often is not whether this works. It is how long it takes to stand up and get everything working.”
- Ulta Beauty has boosted conversion rates on its website by 3X by using Gemini Enterprise to build “Ulta AI” to guide guests through more than 30,000 products and convert questions into personalized recommendations. Bloomberg Media boosted query accuracy by 63% by deploying data agents in its catalog.
- Snap slashed diagnostic troubleshooting by 60X — from 30 minutes to 30 seconds — by connecting its Prism agent directly to its storage archives. L’Oréal cut the time needed for content production from weeks to days by unifying 20 petabytes of unstructured media assets.
- Hitachi has boosted productivity of frontline workers in its global power and utilities business by 400% by building AI agents for more than 200 use cases, such as verifying photos of every tool and wire before and after a job. The agents have also boosted safety for those frontline workers.
- Deutsche Telekom analyzes data 4X faster across 30,000 users by pairing the new Gemini agent with Google Cloud’s borderless Lakehouse to query data from other cloud providers, including Amazon S3 and Azure Data Lake.
- Etsy, taking a similar approach, now runs pipeline queries 60% faster by unifying 2 petabytes of e-commerce data on open Iceberg.
- Deloitte’s Agentic AI Blueprint accelerates the path to measurable business impact by up to 3X by helping businesses determine where new agentic workflows can create the most value. “The Gemini Enterprise solution generates heat maps to pinpoint operations ready to be redesigned with custom AI agents,” Kurian said. “Using this tool, Deloitte guided a telecom client through a billing and invoicing revamp, enabling expansion across 10 markets.”
Final Thought
That number near the top — approximately 500 Google Cloud customers processing at least 1 trillion tokens per year —does indeed show that many companies have fully committed to making AI an integral element in daily operations. And the 12 customer-outcome examples show that AI’s being deployed in an enormously wide range of ways to accelerate operations, eliminate busywork, boost productivity, and create new revenue streams.
As you compare what your company’s doing with AI to some of these innovations, do you feel confident?
