AI in Government: Google Cloud Suite Includes Pre-Built Skills, Connections to Third-Party Systems

Google Cloud expanded its industry-specific AI lineup with a government services platform that leans on a common playbook: prebuilt skills, industry-application connectors, and collaboration with key customers to ensure alignment between product and use cases. The suite also includes specialized agents from third- party partners.

This week’s introduction – Gemini for Government Services — follows recently introduced Gemini versions for financial services and legal industries, and it adds to a growing set of AI products for vertical industries, including this week’s new Copilot for Legal introduced by Microsoft. Other industry leaders including OpenAI and Anthropic are also rolling out vertical industry products.

As it did with its financial and legal products introduced previously, Google Cloud identified the customers who are helping it design the government software: the State of Missouri and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. “Our citizens expect the government to move at the speed of modern life, not the speed of paperwork,” said Tim Marczewski, Director of AI and Innovation, State of Missouri Office of Administration. Its work with Google Cloud will result in better services delivered faster to residents, he added.

Optimized for Government Processes

AI skills – reusable instructions and context that teach AI to run a specific task – are increasingly central to vendors’ AI products. In the case of Gemini for Government Services, each skill applies the statute, regulation, and agency guidance to govern a task using an agency’s standard processes. The company outlined seven total skills, three of which are highlighted here:

  • Policy and regulatory research: An employee can ask an operational or eligibility question and get an answer drawn from the federal or state sources that government workers rely on — with page and paragraph citations included.
  • Vendor bid evaluation: Gemini checks bids against RFP requirements, minimum mandatory criteria, and evaluation rubrics, then returns justifications with scoring.
  • Document validation at intake: Gemini classifies and validates pay stubs, W-2s, utility bills, and leases, checks figures for consistency, and flags missing signatures.

Core System Connections

Gemini for Government Services connects directly to core agency business systems, with access managed by existing role-based controls, record-level permissions, and each system’s data protections. These are highlights of connector categories and specific sources of data:

Federal regulatory and public data: Federal Register, regulations.gov, Electronic Code of Federal Regulations

Agency systems of record: Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle PeopleSoft, Salesforce, ServiceNow

Productivity and collaboration: Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and SharePoint

Third-Party Agents

Agencies can deploy pre-built partner agents including two initial agents from SZNS Solutions. The first is Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and public records discovery agent, which turns plain-language requests, correspondence, or formal citizen inquiries into searches across enterprise archives. The second is Document Redaction Agent that works inside connected repositories — including SharePoint and Drive — to find sensitive citizen data across batches so reviewers don’t need to go through them page by page.

Gemini for Government Services runs on Google Cloud’s secure foundation, and can be deployed using the Assured Workloads FedRAMP High Data Boundary to enforce U.S. data residency and personnel controls.
