In Ep. 183 of My Metaverse Minute, Kieron explains “the most exciting Metaverse partnership that we’ve seen today” between Microsoft and Meta.
Highlights
00:48 – Kieron says that Microsoft is joining forces with Meta to create a combined offering for Metaverse consumers. He says this is an exciting partnership because “it is going to work both ways.”
00:55 – Microsoft will be bringing Mesh, its advanced Teams app, into Meta Quest devices. Kieron says this is an obvious solution for both companies because Mesh is perfectly placed to work with Meta Quest devices. Additionally, Microsoft will offer all of its Microsoft365 apps, giving users access to the complete set of Microsoft applications, which will eventually include Windows365 within Meta Quest devices.
01:37 – Additionally, Microsoft will enable Azure Active Directory to support Meta Quest, Meta Quest Medical, and Meta Quest Pro devices.
01:56 – Kieron says that the capabilities that Microsoft is providing in this partnership are fantastic. He says it demonstrates two things to him. The partnership shows how the Metaverse can enable companies that are not direct rivals, but work within similar spaces, to cooperate and combine. He says the partnership allows for collaboration, which is a huge concept in the Metaverse. Kieron says this is also important because Microsoft is not joining forces with a Metaverse-first company, as Meta is still considered social media.
03:03 – Overall, Kieron says the most exciting takeaway from the partnership is “two companies joining together to see what’s possible within the Metaverse despite their existing businesses outside of it.”
