Acceleration Economy Metaverse

When it comes to the Metaverse, there is one asset that, above all else, will define its development and ultimate success: data. Metaverse applications will create unfathomable amounts of data in countless forms. Handling that data requires a solution matching the decentralized structures on which companies will build the Metaverse. The team behind the open-source ledger database immudb believes it has found that solution.

Who They Are

The technology is an open-source immutable database that borrows from two critical aspects of the Metaverse — the blockchain and transparency. The brains behind this open-source project are Codenotary, a Texas-based software and consulting firm that focuses on developing tamper-proof technologies, such as immudb, for the digital economy.

Codenotary Chairman and CEO Moshe Bar is a well-seasoned chairman, having held positions in various technology companies across the globe, the most recent of which also dealt with the digital supply chain. He is also a qualified computer scientist.

Sitting alongside Bar on the board is co-founder and CTO Dennis Zimmer. Zimmer has more than 25 years of experience in the information technology (IT) sector and has been awarded the title of VMware vExpert every year since 2009. A well-known public speaker and author, Zimmer is considered a virtualization expert.

What They Do

immudb is a ledger database, meaning it uses cryptography to create an immutable, tamper-proof record. The technology combines techniques standard in blockchain with customer database requirements that enable users to store data and cryptographic hashes.

Interestingly, immudb supports key-value, a type of NoSQL and SQL databases, providing users with great flexibility regarding how they structure their data. immudb is transparent and highly scalable, so users benefit from the immutability of the data storage while having the option to install it as a full-fledged service or a lightweight application integration.

Ultimately, immudb is presented as an easy-to-use alternative to blockchain storage solutions. It enables users to store and update all the data from complex and sensitive applications in a single, immutable space. Exceptionally high performing, the database can process millions of instances every second. And, in terms of compliance, all of the information stored on immudb can be made available to auditors immediately, with any tampering attempts automatically reported.

Who They’ve Impacted

immudb has an existing client list that includes some well-known organizations. These organizations include Google, Cisco, Deloitte, Samsung, and Shopify.

In its official product documentation, immudb promises to support many sectors and use cases. DevOps, finance, Internet of Things (IoT), healthcare, and eCommerce are at the forefront. Together, these areas constitute a large proportion of existing or impending Metaverse innovations.

The Future and Closing Thoughts

As a ledger database that implements scalable, cryptographically backed actions, immudb is ideally placed to support activities in the Metaverse. The emphasis in sustainable Metaverse development is on building new, decentralized architecture from the ground up. And, while each company database remains centralized, by adopting transparency and immutability, immudb is delivering a workable solution.

Away from the free model, open-source architecture like immudb is essential for the Metaverse, because there are no restrictions on how it might be adapted to suit a specific use case. As the Metaverse grows and develops, users and innovators alike will face as yet-unknown challenges. An increase in open-source architecture will not only make solutions to these problems more available and accessible, but will also support interoperability.

immudb is championing the immutable database, and it is the only technology of its kind that appears to pivot to Metaverse applications. Perhaps, its greatest strength will be the ability to support transparent data use, a critical concern for compliance. Data use and creation in the Metaverse will far outweigh anything that has preceded it, so an effective way to manage data transparently is essential.
