This episode is brought to you by the Cloud Wars Expo. This in-person event will be held June 28th to 30th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

Highlights

01:25 — After successfully working from home for two years, it seems unlikely that many people will want to physically return to the office.

01:45 — Additionally, as companies have opened options for a hybrid workweek (coming in 2 or 3 days a week), how do you ensure there is an overlap? For instance, if some employees come in on Monday-Tuesday and others come in on Thursday-Friday, what’s the point of coming in?

02:10 — Dr. Nick Bloom and a team from Stanford University have been conducting research involving work-from-home and work-from-anywhere.

02:25 — Cornell University published a paper titled The Emerging Spectrum of Flexible Work Locations: Implications for Travel Demand and Carbon Emissions. The paper discusses how the work-from-home becomes the work-from-anywhere and the shift in commutes as well as a change in patterns of sustainability.

03:00 — Wayne proposes advice to Howard Shultz, CEO of Starbucks. Shultz’s original ‘third place’ idea was that we could have a place that isn’t home, the office, or school to get work done, mingle, and more.

03:35 — The advice Wayne shares for Shultz is to upgrade the ‘third place’ concept of Starbucks by providing spaces with Wi-Fi and a great atmosphere as well as food and coffee to build a temporary, rentable work environment.
