Each month, “Ammirati on Innovation” episodes will look at ways that the disruptive-startup mentality is spreading beyond young entrepreneurs to big established corporations. Serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist and Carnegie Mellon B-school professor Sean Ammirati, who sits at the intersection of these high-change dynamics, provides insight. Today, Sean and I talk about the new concept of digital twins, following Google Cloud’s new product release, and the absolute importance of strong data pipelines.

Episode 28

The Big Themes:

  • Facebook is evil: It’s a lot like going to work for Philip Morris 30 years ago. We should continue to invest in solving the world’s problems.
  • Tesla is undervalued: Tesla is a software company. Tesla is an automaker. In five years we’ll see who’s right.
  • How can you make these companies more software companies over the next few years?
  • When we’re taking shots at social media – there’s big problems that need to be addressed.

The Big Quote:

  • “Frankly, every time I think, okay we’ve hit rock bottom. It’s like they figured out a way to drill further into the rock and look worse.”
  • “Do you work digital or not? It’s just like, so are you going to work or you’re going to retire?”
