Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute, your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder Bob Evans. The next three minutes are packed with insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud! Today’s Topic: IBM Pivots to Partnerships with Microsoft, Amazon & Google
Highlights
0:09 – IBM has paired up with the Big 3 of cloud infrastructure providers, Microsoft, Amazon and Google, a major pivot for the company which not long ago said it was only in competition with these firms in the cloud infrastructure marketplace.
0:24 – Bob says that in a recent conversation, IBM Cloud chief Howard Boville made it clear that IBM is taking a new approach to partnerships and focusing on different aspects of its cloud business.
01:03 – By splitting off its Kyndryl outsourcing business, which was a huge part of IBM, Boville says the company will have more flexibility in how it deals with customers.
01:29 – Boville also said that IBM can now show off its true strength in industry clouds. IBM will focus on four highly regulated industries: financial services, healthcare, government, and telecom.
02:33 – This is a side of IBM that we need to see, Bob says. But at the same time, what really matters is whether the company can turn this talk and these big ideas into revenue and into customer wins. IBM needs to start asserting itself in the marketplace.
