ASU’s Lev Gonick Explains Why CIOs Must Do More Than Service the Business

In this Digital CIO Summit moment, excerpted from the digital event which took place from April 4-6, Lev Gonick, CIO, Arizona State University (ASU), why modern CIOs need to do more than just service their organization.

Highlights

00:05 — “In my generation of CIOs, I think it was sufficient to say that you were in support of the business. Along my journey, I decided that that was necessary, but not sufficient,” explains Gonick.

00:20 — As someone who is deeply committed to the idea of learning, Gonick takes that on as a commitment, with a sense of urgency, to “actually try to be more than just service to the business going forward.”

00:59 — At ASU, the IT team “believes in the value of having diverse orientations to the mission.” The team is dedicated to providing “all the key things that are so bedrock to our profession,” but at the same time, they take on the responsibility “of making sure that we are thinking about where the next track is going to get laid so that their trains can run on them going forward.”
