Welcome to Episode 67 of the Cloud Wars Horizon Minute — featuring news and commentary hosted by Acceleration Economy analyst Tom Smith. Each episode provides insights into one or more innovation accelerators on the Cloud Wars Horizon. This episode focuses on the latest in a long line of digital initiatives from Walmart.

Highlights

00:41 — Walmart continues to set a leadership pace in retail, digital business, customer centricity, and sustainability.

00:58 — Tom talks about four of the latest Walmart developments that the Acceleration Economy audience needs to know about

01:15 — Walmart is highlighting “circular connectors”  — where it encouraged organizations to submit their sustainable packaging innovations. It announced winners in recycling, reuse, composting, and reduction.

01:39 — Second, there is a slew of personal shopping enhancements at Walmart.com that includes keeping customers’ place in line for high-demand items during Black Friday events, the option to “buy now” and skip checkout on most items, and seeing the most viewed and purchased items in their search results.

02:25  — Third, there’s an expansion of the in-store Netflix Hub to 2400+ Walmart stores — with Netflix Streaming Gift Cards, music, apparel, collectibles, and games from shows and films.

02:48 — The final item is ideal for those who should stay off high ladders — especially after a glass or two of holiday cheer. Customers who purchase Christmas lighting from Walmart can easily add installation by a pro from Angi. Customers will see a QR code on the packaging that takes them to a list of installers, and they can purchase installation services from Walmart. Prices start at $149.
