Until recently, a comprehensive solution for securing data in software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications didn’t exist. That was until HYCU, a leading provider of data protection and backup as a service, launched R-Cloud.
R-Cloud is a development platform that enables organizations to implement data protection for SaaS applications. The company recently surpassed 60 supported app integrations. To put that in context, before R-Cloud, the industry as a whole had developed data protection capabilities specific to a total of just five SaaS applications.
While HYCU’s approach to this consistently overlooked issue is bold and practical, there’s a lot of work still to be done: There are upward of 30,000 SaaS apps in existence.
But HYCU continues to evolve R-Cloud to accelerate SaaS data protection. This week it launched generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) functionality that dramatically simplifies the work involved in integrating a SaaS app under the HYCU data protection umbrella.
“We started to talk about how we could make R-Cloud an intrinsic part of every IT shop in the world and the key for us was simplicity,” explains HYCU CEO Simon Taylor. “It suddenly dawned on us one day, What if we could incorporate artificial intelligence, generative AI, into R-Cloud and automate the development process?”
“When we look at how artificial intelligence is helping customers, it should not just be a bot that provides information. It should actually be something that completely changes the way that customers are able to do their jobs,” continues Taylor. “It should add true customer value.” Enter R-Cloud’s GenAI integration.

HYCU’s Generative AI Initiative
Currently, R-Cloud users have three ways to create data protection and backup for a SaaS app. They can contact HYCU directly to have an integration built. They can ask their SaaS app developer to do the work. Or they can build it themselves using a low-code, simple build process. GenAI will streamline the process in any of those scenarios.
HYCU has partnered with Anthropic, utilizing the latter’s Claude 2 Large Language Model (LLM) to power the HYCU Generative AI Initiative. The model has been enriched with HYCU’s proprietary data protection intelligence and built on HYCU’s data security-focused architecture to create a faster, simpler, and more streamlined development process for creating SaaS data protection integrations.
The enriched model is designed to work exclusively with HYCU, and it reduces development time to build an integration from hours to minutes. Leveraging HYCU’s AI assistant, users simply request the required code for a specific integration in the LLM and drop it into HYCU’s development environment. Developers then validate the code and proceed with the integration process.
“We’ve been able to redefine the development process for these data protection integrations,” says Taylor. “We create an easy-to-use way to create SaaS data protection integrations. All of it is built on HYCU’s data security-centric design, so we’re not giving up security, we’re not changing the test process.”
Closing Thoughts
Not long ago, there was much discussion on the capabilities and security concerns of GenAI code generation, which makes what HYCU has achieved so quickly so impressive. As well as providing a secure environment to create and test the code, the speed at which HYCU’s GenAI model can generate the code required for a new SaaS integration is especially impressive.

Radically reducing development time not only supercharges the speed at which new SaaS data protection integrations can be created but also makes it far more feasible for customers to undertake their own integrations. The customer is fully empowered to secure the SaaS apps that matter to them and their business.
SaaS applications are often industry- or sector-specific and not necessarily those that HYCU or its partners would choose to build integrations for. While GenAI consistently enables companies to produce “world firsts,” the impact of these innovations is sometimes negligible. But that’s not the case here; HYCU is exponentially accelerating the speed at which businesses can act to protect their data stored in SaaS applications.
