Highlights
33 — Tony asks Wells to describe his role at Gorilla Glue and how he came into an IT career.
57 — Wells says he did not grow up with a computer but was initially exposed to them when he went off to high school, noting that he “kind of fell in love.” He did very well with them, to the point that he was the president of the school’s computer science club. Then, he began building computers — not only was he good with the hardware aspects of computer science but he also started coding at a young age.
45 — Wells received his master’s degree in computer science but realized he did not want to spend the rest of his life coding. He spent time as a pilot, but realized he was “still always a computer guy.” Fast forward to today, Wells became involved with Gorilla Glue where he works with the information technology (IT) leadership team.
40 — The IT leadership team at Gorilla Glue oversees the applications, service desk, training, infrastructure, and security. He says that “infrastructure is kind of, you know, my area,” adding that “we collaborate and do things together.” Within the team, there’s also the data aspect. Primarily, Wells is responsible for the infrastructure solutions, “which touches basically everything” like apps that live on the servers and other parts of technology infrastructure that are separate from the business-specific applications.
23 — What is Wells most excited about at the upcoming Digital CIO Summit? First of all, he encourages the audience to register for the event. Personally, he is excited about “all things artificial intelligence (AI).” He says he enjoys the application of AI in his personal and professional life, as it makes things easier. Also, he is looking forward to learning about more sustainable technologies.
