This episode of the Cloud Wars Minute is sponsored by Acceleration Economy’s Sustainability Digital Impact Summit, taking place on January 26, 2023. Listeners will receive actionable insights from technology buying committee analysts and leading technology providers. Click here to register today.

In this episode, Bob talks about the latest co-CEO of Workday, Carl Eschenbach, who will become the sole CEO in a year.

Highlights

00:38 — Workday has named its new co-CEO, Carl Eschenbach, who will serve in that role for a year and then become the sole CEO in February of 2024. At that point, Aneel Bhusri, the current CEO of Workday, will become the executive chairman.

01:01 — Who is Carl Eschenbach? Although he hasn’t worked hands-on in the SaaS field, he has had a legendary 14-year-long career at VMware. Throughout his career, he served as the Chief Operations Officer, President, and acting Chief Financial Officer. During his time with VMware, he helped grow the company from a total valuation of $31 million to $7 billion. Additionally, the team grew from 200 employees to more than 20,000.

02:21 — Currently, Eschenbach is a partner at Sequoia Ventures and serves on the board of directors at companies such as:

  • Zoom
  • Snowflake
  • UiPath
  • Palo Alto Networks

02:56 — Bob shares pieces of Eschenbach’s personal philosophy. In today’s Cloud Wars News article coming later today, Bob includes several more compelling quotations from Eschenbach.

04:10 — After reviewing these snippets of Eschenbach’s personal philosophy, in conjunction with his experience, Bob feels that Workday’s future with its new CEO is in very good hands.
