Highlights
00:38 — Shapiro talks about “knowing your North Star and how to get there.” When organizations are in the process of defining measures of success, they can start by setting ambitious goals that are still bold, clear, and realistic.
01:00 — Finding the balance between “a maniacal focus on metrics” and a long-term vision is essential when going through this process and implementing it. “There is no such thing as a perfect metric,” she says, and sometimes one must trust one’s intuition.
01:26 — The “ultimate measurement of success” does not exist. Once this idea is accepted, it’s easier to define measures of success. Shapiro encourages organizations to start by defining the objective in a “plain English statement,” and only after that can they start to “define metrics, set goal targets, and operationalize.”
